Personalisation by Pieces

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills, or PLTS, are a key part of the Diploma course.  They are also an element that is very much led by you the student – giving you a large amount of control over how you show that you are developing the 6 Personal Learning and Thinking Skills:

1.      independent enquiry

2.      creative thinking

3.      reflective learning

4.      team working

5.      self-managing

6.      effective participating

You will record your PLTS development using a web-tool called “Personalisation by Pieces” (or PbyP for short) and will be given a username and password at the start of your course that will let you access the site http://www.pbyp.co.uk/. You will be shown how to use the web-tool to:

  • set yourself targets (about 2 per week)
  • see examples of work that has shown the particular skill you have set yourself as a target
  • upload evidence to show you have met a target
  • decide whether the work of other students that has been sent to you has met their target or not
    change your password

Your evidence may be marked by other students however there are lots of checks to make sure that the marking is as accurate and you will be supported by a member of staff trained in the use of PbyP in your home school.

They will regularly check on your progress and are on hand to help you with ideas for how to evidence any skills you are finding difficult. Your progress in developing your PLTS through PbyP will be reported termly to your home school in your Progress Report.
